Will registration: an essential safeguard

How to find out whether someone has made a will

In the difficult period following a death, uncertainty about the existence of a will can cause distress to those left behind. The French notarial profession manages the Central Register of Last Wills (FCDDV), a national registry of authentic and handwritten wills deposited with notaries across France.

Consulting the FCDDV: a regulated procedure

Who may access this information?

  • Notaries, as natural guardians of estate transmission
  • Heirs and legatees, upon proof of their status

How to consult the FCDDV?

  1. Through a notary
  2. Directly by heirs: online at www.adsn.notaires.fr or by post: ADSN – FCDDV, 95 avenue des Logissons, 13107 Venelles Cedex

Important: Consultation is only possible upon presentation of the deceased's death certificate.
